about

CC04

"The two Egopatterns tracks on the EP succeed in delivering the artists trademark layering of fantastical and dream-like atmospheres and melodies over the top of a solid foundation of light yet floor-filling house music. Egopatterns seems to fill the gap between two disparate fields of musical endeavour, but does so in an endearing and interesting way with high levels of taste, care and attention to detail on display throughout. This artist has a distinctive ambience that is hard to ignore. This ambience is moved over to one side on the EP however by the characteristically intense and hard-hitting, yet inviting and moreish work of Arm Watches Fingers. The music is almost cacophonic in nature but retains an exciting structure - whilst remaining unpredictable and difficult to pin down. Although Arm Watches Fingers tracks are generally pretty short, the two featured on this EP are highly repeatable and excellently executed.

This is the first release on Crater Cove in three years – a label helmed by Egopatterns – and seems to be a statement of intent from each of the artists involved; coming together to mark the start of something. Between Crater Cove’s takeover at Kelburn later this month and its monthly “Monument” series, and Ova Mata (Arm Watches Fingers' own label) lining up a slew of highly exciting releases for the coming months, this EP appears to be a statement of intent, holding up under its own weight but simultaneously promising much more to come from these two hard-working and talented Glasgow musicians."
